When I first landed in Montevideo, I didn’t know anyone in the city or what to expect for the next three months I would be staying there. When I first landed in Montevideo, I didn’t know anyone in the city or what to expect for the next three months I would be staying there. When I first got dropped off at my accommodation, I was so exhausted that I slept all day, got up to shower, and slept all night. However, the next day, my host family took me on a ride in their car along the coast and showed me all the cool spots in Montevideo, which is exactly what I needed to ease my anxiety, and they helped me out when it came to getting groceries and a bus card. My experience at the school was fantastic as well; not only did I enjoy learning Spanish with everyone, but Margo went out of her way to make sure I could reach out and that I had things to do in the city. Through the school, I met friends that I could hang out with, so the city didn’t feel so lonely anymore. I also really enjoyed the mate class with the school! Finally, my time interning in the hospital in Montevideo was absolutely amazing. My Spanish is not advanced enough to keep up with their quick talk and slang, but it has been so cool to see them work behind the scenes and get to know the residents in the urology department. It has also helped me make the decision to continue on the pre-med path in university this year. I have gotten the chance to watch surgeries removing various tumors, including surgery with a robot, which is a very unique and exciting experience for them to let me have, considering I have never worked in the medical field. Overall, I’m so grateful for my time in Montevideo and for all the people that helped make it so special.
