Golf Study Abroad in Scotland
Interested in golf, recreation, and sports? This is your chance! Enroll in our 2027 4-week summer golf study abroad program in Scotland.
Scotland is unlike any other Adelante destination. There is no Spanish language requirement, no year-round program calendar, and no single city at the center of it all. What Scotland offers instead is a collection of highly specialized, summer-only programs set against some of the world’s most striking landscapes, run in partnership with prestigious academic institutions that have spent decades developing these placements.
Adelante’s Scotland programs are based primarily in and around Edinburgh, one of the UK’s most celebrated cities, with an additional program running at Scotland’s Rural College Elmwood campus in Cupar. Programs run only during the summer and are shorter than Adelante’s other destinations, ranging from 4 to 5 weeks. Because of this, no visa is required for any of the Scotland programs regardless of nationality.
Adelante currently offers three programs in Scotland, each running during summer only:
Spots across all three programs are limited, so applying early is strongly encouraged.

Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital and one of the most visually striking cities in Europe. Arthur’s Seat, a dormant volcano that rises above Holyrood Park, is just a short walk from the city center. Edinburgh Castle flanks the city from the other side. In between, there is an extraordinary amount to explore: museums, galleries, green spaces, world-class restaurants, and a nightlife scene that runs well into the early hours.
Weekends in Scotland are entirely free for participants to travel and explore, and most interns find this to be one of the highlights of the program.
Edinburgh itself has more than enough to fill a summer. Arthur’s Seat is a popular hike with unforgettable views. The Grassmarket and West Port Street areas are known for vintage shopping and independent cafes. The Elephant House café, a longtime haunt of authors including J.K. Rowling, is worth a visit. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of the world’s largest arts festivals, runs in August and transforms the city entirely.
Scotland beyond Edinburgh is equally compelling. The Highlands, the Isle of Skye, Loch Ness, St. Andrews, and the Orkney Islands are all within reach for those who want to explore further. Most participants describe their weekends in Scotland as some of the most memorable of their lives.
No visa is required for any of Adelante’s Scotland programs. All programs are either four or five weeks in duration, which falls well within the visa-free period for visitors to the UK from most countries.
Visa requirements vary by nationality and program length. Adelante can provide basic guidance on visa requirements as part of the pre-departure process, but participants are required to check the UK Visas and Immigration official website in their home country in advance of their start date to confirm requirements. All participants must process their own visas, and Adelante can only provide supporting documentation when required and relevant.

My experience with this study abroad program was one of a kind! It is such a unique opportunity to be able to study abroad in a foreign country, both traditionally in the classroom and in the arena as well. The accommodations are great for the location and time you are here. The classroom instructors are well versed in their respective fields and are excited about teaching you as well as learning from you about different perspectives based on where you come from. I really enjoyed applying what we learned in the classroom to the horses in the barn, as well as getting to take a field trip and see first hand what a horse in a fitness program looks like. I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in horses, riding, or an equine career!

This program was a lot of “firsts” for me. The classes were really hands-on and real-world applicable. The professors were really helpful and they made sure we were all happy and taken care of. My favorite parts were riding – I had only done some Western riding before so it was a bit of a change! I also liked getting the opportunity to ride several horses to fine-tune my own riding abilities and to gain more experience in riding horses with all varying personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. I’m really glad I got to come on this trip and visit Scotland and experience the culture.

I could not have asked for a better internship opportunity than the experience I had here in Edinburgh. All of the people who we interacted with for our program were so friendly and helpful. Our living situation was spectacular- right off the Royal Mile! The actual internship program at the University was absolutely outstanding. We had the opportunity to learn new software, code data, run participants, research new literature, and I even had the opportunity to work with a professor to collaborate on a brand new study. Definitely the right program fit for me and has immensely grown the confidence and ability I have in my research skills. I would definitely recommend this program to anybody that wants to further their research experience in a unique and independent way.
