Study the Spanish Language & Wine Making Theory in Chile

Viña del Mar, Chile

Attention wine lovers! We have a brand new study abroad program just for you. This wine study abroad program combines Spanish language immersion with wine theory. The three-week program is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of Chilean wines and the Spanish language.

The first two weeks of the program will include 20 hours of Spanish language immersion classes followed by 12 hours of wine theory and enology classes. Students will learn the Spanish language from experienced instructors and receive in-depth wine classes from a well-known enologist and wine educator at a local Chilean winery. Classes will be taught in an immersive environment to enhance language acquisition, including Enology and Viticulture vocabulary in Spanish, and cultural understanding. The course will cover various topics, including wine production techniques, wine tasting, winemaking, viticulture, and more. Wine theory classes will also include a Chilean cooking class with a guest chef on cooking with wine.

During the third week, students will visit several vineyards in the Casablanca Valley for observation and wine-tasting sessions. Throughout the program, students will also have the opportunity to participate in various cultural activities, including cultural tours and excursions to nearby cities.

Please note the legal drinking age in Chile, as in most countries, is 18 years old. All candidates over the age of 18 are welcome to apply!

Wine Theory & Spanish Language Immersion FAQs

Can I participate if I am under 21 years old?

Yes you can! The legal age for responsible alcohol consumption in Chile is 18 years old.

Do I need to know everything about wine to participate?

No! This program is open to beginners as well as advanced wine enthusiasts. You will learn everything from the basics.

Can I participate if I do not speak Spanish well?

Of course! This program is designed for beginner Spanish speakers. In the program we include a Spanish leveling.

What is the weather like in Chile during this program?

The weather is a little cold during this time of year. There may be a little rain as well. July-August months are winter in Chile, and September is the start of Spring.

How much should I budget for living expenses per month, other than what is included in the program fee?

For Chile we suggest approximately $125 USD per week, and this covers normal expenses like groceries, metro money, some going out and one or two nearby excursions a month. The price goes up when you start going out at night more and when you begin to travel further abroad (which we do encourage!).
